I agree with Mr Osman Sidek that people are not automatically entitled to exclusive claim to a piece of land by virtue only of the fact that they were historically the first occupants of the land (More balanced views on Jerusalem's history needed; Jan 24).
United States President Donald Trump should be told that Jerusalem is no more an indivisible part of the Jews than America is of the Native Americans. The same goes for Australia, New Zealand and many other countries as we know them today.
Supporters of the notion of the indivisibility of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel are entitled to their views.
But they should acknowledge that current circumstances on the ground are supported by political, military and economic forces, not some simplistic and misguided theory of historical ancestral rights.
