Ujjain: Three-day pulse polio campaign inaugurated

Ujjain: Energy minister Paras Jain, divisional commissioner MB Ojha and collector Sanket Bhondve inaugurated the pulse polio campaign in Charak Hospital on Sunday by administering polio drops to newborns. CMHO Dr VK Gupta, regional director of health services KK Vaskale, civil surgeon Dr Raju Nidaria, district vaccination officer Dr KC Parmar and district TB control officer Dr Sunita Parmar were present on this occasion.

The health department has set up around 2180 polio booths and 4360 employees have been deployed in the district for the convenience of general public. Though polio has been eradicated from the country, children up to 5 years of age are still administered polio vaccine to prevent any recurrence of the disease.

On this occasion, Jain and Bhondve also inspected the cancer unit in Civil Hospital. They praised CMHO and civil surgeon for providing free chemo therapy to 5000 patients in the city and dialysis facility to 6000 patients. Madhya Pradesh Chemist Association president Om Jain was also present on the occasion.


District women empowerment officer Sabir Ahmad Siddiqui published the appeal in Urdu language in Muslim areas and distributed it in Topkhana of ward number 27. Topkhana corporator Rahim Lala also administered polio medicine to the children on Sunday.

Mayor Meena Jonwal and corporator Geeta Chaudhary administered polio medicine to children in Anganwadi Centre at Jaisingpura. They also appealed the women present there to send their children to anganwadi and take advantage of governmental schemes.

With the help of Dr Prakash Joshi, Vandana Bairagi and Mamta Joshi, polio medicine was given to small children at Indra Nagar Tempo Chauraha. In village Makrone, the campaign was inaugurated by sarpanch Leela Bai and Bahuuddesheeya Swasthya Karamchari Sangh district president MR Mansuri.
