Police say the man fired at least 76 shots from multiple weapons.
MIDDLEBORO — An intoxicated man is accused of firing more than 75 gunshots from a semiautomatic rifle for no apparent reason early Monday morning, police said.
About 12:24 a.m., police received numerous 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area of Thompson and Fuller streets.
"At least 12 callers reported hearing more than 20 shots fired in rapid succession," Police Chief Joseph Perkins said in a written statement.
The dispatcher told responding officers that the phones were "ringing off the hook," with calls from residents on Fuller, Plympton and Thompson streets.
"One 911 caller reported seeing muzzle flashes coming from a resident's yard on Thompson Street," Perkins said.
Police searched the area and determined the gunfire was coming from 218 Thompson St., which is about .7 miles from the intersection of Thompson and Fuller streets.
As a result of the investigation, police arrested Paul Folloni. Police located 76 spent shell casings in the backyard and seized several firearms, including a semiautomatic AR-15 rifle.
Folloni, 33, of 218 Thompson St., was charged with carrying a firearm while intoxicated, discharging a firearm within 500-feet of a dwelling, improper storage of a firearm, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. He was also placed in protective custody.
A deputy with the Plymouth County Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to document evidence and photograph the scene.
Folloni was held overnight and is expected to be arraigned Monday in Wareham District Court.
