NEW MATAMORAS — Thanks to a big third quarter surge, visiting Caldwell High pushed its record above the .500 mark with a 54-37 victory over Frontier in Pioneer Valley Conference action Saturday night.

Coach Clint Crane’s Redskins led 12-5 after one quarter, but Frontier gained an 11-6 edge in the second period to pull within 18-16 at the intermission. Caldwell erupted with a 23-10 edge in the third round, however, to open a 41-26 lead and widened the gap to as many as 25 midway through the final frame before the Cougars got within the final margin of 17.

Clark Jennings and Logan Heller carried the scoring load for Caldwell (8-7, 3-2 PVC) with 20 points each.

Shon Howell tallied 15 points and Logan Brookover netted 10 for Frontier. 

NEXT - Caldwell entertains PVC leader Fort Frye on Tuesday, with JV action at 6 p.m.
