In order to augment the public transport system in the Millennium City, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) is working overtime to roll out 500 CNG buses in a phased manner. The authority is working on launching at least 200 buses in the first phase. There will be a bus stop at every two kilometres in the city to help the commuters in seamless travel in and around the city. At present, the Haryana Transport Department operates a fleet of 115 low floor buses in the city, out of which 55 are air-conditioned.
As per the plan, the bus service is to run 500 buses of which 45 per cent will be air-conditioned. The frequency of the service will be 7.5 to 10 minutes. In a pre-proposal survey, the MCG had an estimated potential ridership of three lakh per day.
It is proposed that the MCG was to have 51 per cent share in the SPV followed by 19 per cent share of Haryana Government, 25 per cent of Haryana Industrial Development Board and 5 per cent of the Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC).
“We have received the permission to construct three bus depots these sites have been identified and the process of the construction will be started soon,” said Gopal Kalawat, the Executive Engineer of MCG.
MCG has also identified locations for three bus depots out of five depots across the city that will house these new buses. The locations of the other two depots will be decided soon.
The locations for bus depots in sectors will be in sector-10, 52-53 and in sector 48. The civic body has also received a permission from the State Government to start the construction of these bus depots at the earliest. Tenders for the bus concessionaire has been started and by end of this month, two bus operators will be selected for the services.
Moreover, the estimated cost of sector 48 bus depot will be Rs 1,148.77 lakh and 7.3 acres of land has been identified. Similarly, Rs 1,016.94 lakh, the estimated cost of the sector 52-53 bus depot and will construct on 5 acres of land while in sector 10 the authority has identified 13 acres of land and the cost of the project will be Rs 1,376 lakh, an MCG official added.
