The UK Government has confirmed that superfast broadband is now available to more than 19 out of 20 homes and businesses (citing figures published by thinkbroadband.com), delivering on its pledge to make the technology available to 95 percent of premises by end-2017.

The GBP 1.7 billion programme to make superfast broadband available in areas not covered by industry roll-outs has so far reached more than 4.5 million UK premises. The Government claims that reducing the digital divide has helped boost local economies with the creation of around 50,000 new local jobs and generating additional turnover of GBP 1.6 billion in areas covered by the programme between 2013 and 2016.
