A private member Bill on Kapu reservation will be introduced in the Lok Sabha during the ensuing Budget session, according to Anakapalle MP M. Srinivasa Rao.

“I have applied for introducing the Bill and received a confirmation from the Legislative Officer,” the MP said on Sunday.

The committee set up by the State government had already given its report. The State Assembly too had passed the Bill.

“It is for the Parliament now to take a call,” he said.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao appealed to all the parties to support the Bill as Kapus were one of the most backward communities in the State despite being the largest community.

The MP said that Kapus had earlier enjoyed BC status, but were subsequently removed from the list. “It is time justice is done to the community,” he added.

The MP further said that changing the status of fishermen from BC to SC would also be taken up at an appropriate time.
