SSC Examination

Never said would block Facebook

Says Nahid

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday told parliament that the government never had any plan to block Facebook or any other social media platform during public examinations to check question leaks.

"We never said that we would block Facebook during the SSC examinations. We don't have the authority [over Facebook] either,” the minister said this while responding to a supplementary question from opposition lawmaker Peer Fazlur Rahman.

Replying to another query, Nahid said question papers used to be leaked from the BG Press, but those “don't leak from the BG press [anymore] as various measures have been taken there.”

However, after getting the question papers at exam centres, some teachers leak those via social media, he said. “We have failed to stop question paper leaks on the Facebook and other social media.”

“That's why we've been discussing the matter with the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission [BTRC] to address the issue.”

The BTRC has informed the education ministry that a number of methods are used to leak question papers and they (BTRC) would be vigilant during the exams so they can report anything suspicious to the ministry, the education minister said.

"If they [BTRC] detect anything like this during the exams, they would inform us immediately for taking measures,” he added.
