Fire breaks out in high-rise

Nearly 40 people were in building at time of the incident

A fire broke out in the 12-storey Kailash Building on Kasturba Gandhi Marg here on Sunday evening, the police said, adding that no casualties were reported.

Nearly 40 people, most of them journalists with a Hindi daily, were present in the building at the time of the incident.

The cause of the fire is being investigated, said a senior police officer.

Delhi Fire Service Additional Director Atul Garg said the fire broke out in the 11th floor office of the Australian Council for Educational Research around 4.30 p.m.

Five fire tenders

Five fire tenders were rushed to the spot and fire was doused around 5.30 p.m., said Mr. Garg.

Those present inside at the time of the incident said they exited the high-rise after the entire building got filled with smoke, making it difficult for them to breathe.
