Sources say Flames put Jagr on waivers
Two people with direct knowledge of the move say the Calgary Flames have placed Jaromir Jagr on waivers.
The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because the team had not announced the transaction. Jagr is on regular waivers, though one person tells the AP that if the 45-year-old clears, he'll be placed on unconditional waivers Monday for the purpose of terminating his NHL contract so he can return to Europe to finish the season.
Jagr had a goal and six assists in 22 games this season for the Flames and hasn't played since Dec. 31 because of what the team called a lower-body injury. Calgary put him on injured reserve Jan. 14.
Auto racing: Action Express Racing has a third Rolex 24 at Daytona title, and Chip Ganassi Racing its 200th victory. The Action Express team of Filipe Albuquerque, Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi drove Cadillac to the overall victory Sunday at Daytona International Speedway. Ganassi's two Ford GT entries dominated the GT Le Mans class and defended last year's victory. The team of Ryan Briscoe, Richard Westbrook and Scott Dixon won and defeated its sister car, which was the defending class champion.
Luge: Olympic champion Felix Loch secured his sixth overall luge World Cup title Sunday in Sigulda, Latvia. Natalie Geisenberger had previously claimed her record sixth overall World Cup title in Lillehammer, Norway.
Skiing: American Mikaela Shiffrin lost her six-race winning streak in World Cup slaloms when she skied out when leading by a full second within sight of the finish on Sunday in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Shiffrin lost rhythm and balance going into a straight combination with six gates left, handing victory to Petra Vlhova of Slovakia. ... Marcel Hirscher claimed his 55th World Cup victory by finishing well ahead of his rivals in Sunday's giant slalom in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, the last before the Olympics.
