The first of the two-phase national intensified pulse polio immunisation drive began in Mandya and Ramanagaram on Sunday with Deputy Commissioner and other officials and health workers administering the oral polio vaccines (OPV) to children below the age of five.
The drive was inaugurated by N. Manjushri, Deputy Commissioner, Mandya, here, and by B.R. Mamatha, Deputy Commissioner, Ramanagaram, in Ramanagaram by administering anti-polio drops to a few children.
Accompanied by officials of various departments, Ms. Manjushri visited several places and administered the anti-polio drops. She also met migrant labourers staying in makeshift huts in the town and administrated the OPV.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare had established 723 booths across the district to administer the OPV to 1,35,876 children.
Ramanagaram
The total number of booths established across Ramanagaram on Sunday was 542 to cover 86,245 children during the first phase of the drive. Parents visited booths across both the districts with their children to be administered the pulse polio drops.
