Mysuru district achieved 94.98% coverage in the pulse polio drive organised on Sunday. Of the targeted 2,44,590 children in the age-group of zero to five years, 2,26,340 were administered polio drops.
Basavaraj, District Health Officer, told The Hindu that over 1,186 pulse polio centres were set up and over 6,352 vaccinators were deployed to administer polio drops. Over 320 centre managers were also posted to ensure that the drive would be carried out all over the district successfully.
No reports of giddiness
Mr. Basavaraj said that no where in the district incidents of children complaining of giddiness or fainting were reported.
There also were over 27 mobile units stationed at City Railway Station, bus stand and other places that had a lot of travelling public.
Gopinath, RCH officer, said that over 834 places were identified as high risk areas – including slums, tribal habitats and construction work places. He said that volunteers and health workers visited all such areas to administer the drops to children.
The RCH officer said that the health workers and volunteers will visit houses from Monday to administer pulse polio drops to children who missed out on the first day of the drive.
Mr. Basavaraj, along with many other officers, visited numerous vaccination centres, supervising the drive through the day. Some of the doctors were stationed at the Health Office to monitor the drive.
