Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauds women achievers in first 'Mann ki Baat' address of 2018

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation in his monthly Mann ki Baat. This is the 40th edition of the monthly radio address. In his last "Mann ki Baat", Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about the cleanliness survey to be conducted between January 4 to March 10.

Here are the highlights of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's speech:
* Prime Minister talked about the immense contribution of women in economy and society. He remembered Kalpana Chawla who died in Columbia space shuttle crash on February 1, 2003. He also cited defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman who flew in a Sukhoi-30MKI and Lt Commander Vartika Joshi under whose guidance an all-women crew is sailing across the globe.

* Prime Minisiter talked about tribal women in Chhattisgarh. He said that the tribal women in Dantewada are driving e-rickshaws amidst an atmosphere of violence by Maoists. This has empowered them and made them self-sufficient.

* Prime Minister talked about all women station at Matunga in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He also lauded the all-women bikers of the BSF who displayed their skills at the Republic Day parade.

* Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about the women achievers from diverse areas who were felicitated by the President of India.

* PM Modi elaborated on the benefits of Jan Aushadhi Yojana which has helped old citizens as the medicines available at the Jan Aushadhi Kendra are cheaper and WHO-compliant. The objective behind this scheme is to provide quality and affordable healthcare to every Indian.

* On Padma awards, the Prime Minister said that the process of nomination has changed and become more transparent giving prominence to a person's work rather than his name. He spoke about the contribution of common Indians who received the Padma awards for their contribution to the society. These awards are a recognition of their achievement.

* On NRI Day, India invited MPs and Mayors of Indian-origin from all the countries. I am happy that these people have been helping to maintain positive ties between India and their respective countries.

*The Prime Minister also praised the "human chain" formed in Bihar against social evils like child marriage and dowry.
