The University of Findlay’s Tynelle Gumbs, competing unattached, won the elite women’s weight throw to highlight the action at the Findlay Classic and Elite Throws Competition at UF’s Malcolm Athletic Center on Saturday.
Gumbs posted a winning toss of 68-8 to win the event. She also captured the women’s open shot put with a throw of 48-6 ¼. Her sister Trevia, was fifth in the elite weight throw with a toss of 64-7¾.
UF’s Holly Averesch was second in the women’s open shot put (48-0) with Tynelle Gumbs next at 47-9. Findlay grad Zaresha Neal netted seventh in the event for Bowling Green at 45-5 ¼ as the event was dominated by local performers.
Two athletes with local ties finished in the top six of the women’s elite shot put. Alex DeVincentis was fifth for UF with a throw of 49-9¾ while Elmwood grad Katie Dewey placed sixth for Toledo at 48-9.
The only other win for the Oilers in the women’s meet came from Semoy Hemmings in the 400 as she crossed the finish line first in 58.7 seconds.
Madisen Borer (St. Wendelin) was fifth in the 1,000 (3:14.86) and teamed with Hemmings, Aubreah Manns (Riverdale) and Jenna Shipman for seventh in the 1,600 relay (4:14.99). Heidelberg senior Sarah Hunter (Riverdale) was second in the 400 (59.16).
The Oilers recorded a pair of wins in the men’s meet as Trey Everett won the high jump (6-6 ¾) and Martin Etsey captured the triple jump (49-6½).
UF’s Austin Combs (Liberty-Benton) was fourth in the men’s elite weight throw with a toss of 70-1¾.

BELMONT, N.C. — The University of Findlay wrestling team split four matches on Saturday to finish with a 4-2 record at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional duals on Saturday at Belmont Abbey College.
After going 2-0 on Friday, the Roughnecks topped King University (27-18) and Belmont Abbey (29-19) while falling to Limestone (28-12) and Newberry (27-19).
Senior 184-pounder Brad Metz finished 6-0 to lead the way for UF. James Wimer also went 6-0 at 157 pounds. Gerald Beck (285) and Josh Wimer (149) went 5-1 and Mike Stewart (133) finished with a 4-2 mark for the Roughnecks.
