Giuseppe DiStasi

His family was his life

OAKVILLE – Giuseppe “Joe” DiStasi, 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at home with his loving wife and family by his side. He was the deeply devoted husband of Teresa (Rosa) DiStasi for 62 wonderful years.

Giuseppe was born in Cercemaggiore, Campobasso, Italy, on Oct. 29, 1926, son of the late Loreto and Maria Libero (Rosa) DiStasi. He was a retired employee of Scovill Manufacturing where he worked for many years in the Maintenance Department. His commitment to his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends was profoundly deep. Nothing brought him greater joy than gathering at the table to drink homemade wine and eat prosciutto. He took great pride in his garden, sharing the abundance of his tomatoes, zucchini, beans and broccoli rabe brought him much pleasure. He filled his home with all of life’s riches, family, friends and laughter. His declining health only challenged him to be even more of a courageous, loving man who never lost sight of his true spirit. He was a longtime member of the Cercemaggiore Club of Oakville and he was a parishioner of St. Mary Magdalen Church. Giuseppe will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him.

Besides his wife of 62 years, he was survived by his children, Daniel DiStasi of Washington, Conn. and Grace Sinopoli of Watertown; as well as four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves his brother, Sebastiano and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers, Michele and Nicola and his sister, Giueseppina.

Funeral services for Mr. DiStasi are Tuesday when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary Magdalen Church, Buckingham St., Oakville at 10 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Giuseppe’s’s family on Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville.
