Nagpur: Drawing sketches is an art that requires minute observation so that the object could be identified, with all its finesse. Artists of Urban Sketchers Nagpur (USN) did just that in the first-ever three-day 'Retrospective Exhibition' that concluded at a city restaurant on Sunday.
The programme was an effort to promote sketching and painting so that sketchers could reproduce the nitty-gritty of the object on a canvas. Bijayananda Biswaal, a painter of national repute, was the guest of honour.
These enthusiasts explore the city and give expression through sketches and paintings. They capture the essence of Nagpur, like contemporary architecture, majestic stone temples, bustling markets or anything that attracts them.
Pictures of All Saints Cathedral put on display spoke about the serene atmosphere and also depicted the human feelings of the divine. Cotton Market and a mall were illustrated well. SFS College, behind the backblocks of trees, gave the message of environment protection. Students from various architecture colleges joined the event to showcase their talent.
Ravi Gughane, one of the group members said, "We visit a particular spot every Sunday to explore the hidden beauty of a place. This augurs well as even the otherwise busy professionals too join us for a nearly two-hour session to identify creativity in them."
Snehal Narkhede, one of the students, said, "The shadow pattern which we draw actually roll out and reveal natural beauty of the cosmos."
Kaushik Sakharkar said, "When we go to different places, it not only speaks about the perspective but also the lively activity."
USN team, which made the event successful, included Himashree Barchamua, Chaitali Patrikar, Mukul Kogje, Snehal Narkhede, Ahsaas Tarwani, Kaushik Sakharkar, Shreya Patil and Nitin Kurve. They also share these sketches on social media. The group has so far organized 72 events.
