Bre Hampton-Bey stole a Rhode Island pass with 5 seconds left and found Hailey Leidel for a game-winning layup Saturday.
The UMass women’s basketball team beat Rhode Island 61-59.
Hampton-Bey was defending in the post when she intercepted an entry pass and dribbled up the court. Leidel took off from the opposite wing and beat the buzzer to cap a six-point UMass comeback in the fourth quarter.
The Minutewomen (10-11, 2-6 Atlantic 10) trailed 47-43 after three quarters but outscored the Rams 18-12 in the fourth.
Leidel finished with 25 points, while Hampton-Bey added 11 points, five assists and five steals.
Paige McCormack also scored 11, while Maggie Mulligan grabbed 10 rebounds.
Babson 91, Mount Holyoke 27 — Belchertown grad Téa Spellacy scored eight points for the Beavers in a road win Saturday. Raquel Fitzpatrick led the Lyons (0-19, 0-11 NEWMAC) with 12 points.
Smith 76, Wheaton 46 — Kennedy Guest-Pritchett had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in a home win Saturday.
Lauren Bondi also scored 13 for the Pioneers (15-4, 8-2 NEWMAC).
Amherst 49, Bowdoin 45 — Emma McCarthy and Hannah Fox each scored 14 points Saturday to keep the Mammoths unbeaten.
Madeline Eck added 12 for Amherst (20-0, 6-0 NESCAC).
Amherst handed the Polar Bears their first loss of the season.
AIC 86, Franklin Pierce 83 — Amherst Regional grad Devonte McCall posted the first double-double of his collegiate career Saturday in a loss. He had 22 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 62.5 percent from the field.
Amherst 75, Bowdoin 60 — Michael Riopel led five Mammoths in double figures with 18 points in a road win Saturday.
Johnny McCarthy picked up a double-double for the Mammoths (12-6, 5-1 NESCAC) with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Grant Robinson added 14 points, while Joseph Schneider and Fru Che each had 10.
Maine 3, UMass 2 — Mitchell Chaffee had a goal and an assist, but the Minutemen fell at home Saturday.
Amherst’s John Leonard scored the other goal, while Oliver Chau and Mario Ferraro added assists. Ferrarro assited on both goals.
Ryan Wischow maded 23 saves for UMass (11-14-1, 5-10-1 Hockey East).
Amherst 0, Wesleyan 0 — Connor Girard stopped 23 shots for a shutout in a tie Saturday.
Trinity 5, Amherst 2 — Jack Fitzgerald and Nick Bondra scored in a road loss for the Mammoths on Sunday.
Pieter von Steinberg and Joey Lupo had assists, while Girard made 36 saves for Amherst (7-7-4).
Amherst 5, Williams 3 — Alex Toupal scored a hat trick in a road win Saturday.
Emma Flynn and Mia DelRosso also found the net, while Katie Savage, Flynn, Toupal, Laura Schmidlein and DelRosso added assists.
Bailey Plaman made 26 saves for the Mammoths (11-5-3, 7-3-2 NESCAC).
