ALAPPUZHA: A complaint has been lodged saying that some North Indian students were tricked into eating beef during a college event here.

The incident happened here in Pulinkunnu Engineering College here that comes under the Cochin University of Science and Technology on last Thursday, when some North Indian students who took part in a seminar at the college were served beef cutlets along with tea.

The authorities who served the cutlet had told them that those were vegetable cutlets, but some Malayalee students had informed them later that those were beef cutlets.

A native of Bihar and a student of Mechanical Engineering Ankit Kumar, and a Computer Science student Himanshu Kumar have clarified that a complaint has been forwarded regarding the same to the district collector.

They have said that they cannot even mention about eating beef to their respective families and that it’s against their religious believes to eat beef.

Meanwhile, the college authority have come to the fore with an explanation regarding the incident. College principal Dr. Sunil Kumar has said that the cutlets were distributed as part of the seminar which happened at the college but that the seminar was not organised by the college.

“Usually the college distributes the snacks during such events, and we only distribute vegetarian food items. But this time around, the snacks were brought by the people who organised the seminar and the college authority was not aware of what the food item was. It was only when they distributed it, we realised that it was cutlets,” he clarified.
