YORK’S Nuffield Hospital has been praised for the way it records monitors and records its successes.
The hospital has been named a National Joint Registry (NJR) Quality Data Provider.
The NJR monitors hip, knee, elbow and shoulder replacement operations to improve clinical outcomes and to help patients and clinicians and the whole industry.
The registry collects data about orthopaedic operations, which is then used as evidence to boost patient safety, standards in quality care, and overall cost effectiveness in joint replacement surgery.
Andrew Blackburn, hospital director at the Nuffield in York, said: “Improving patient safety is of the upmost importance and something all staff take very seriously.
“We fully support the National Joint Registry’s work in facilitating improvement in clinical outcomes and governance for the benefit of joint replacement patients and we’re delighted to be awarded as a ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’.”
To achieve the‘NJR Quality Data provider’ award, hospitals had to meet a series of six ambitious targets during the 2016/17 financial year.
One of the targets was a national audit which looked at how complete hospital’s data was, and how high its quality was.
National Joint Registry Medical Director Martyn Porter congratulated staff at York for meeting the standards.
He said the data collected is an important source of evidence for regulators like the Care Quality Commission, and is strong driver when it comes to improving the quality of care for patients.
Mr Porter added: “It is clear that for surgeons and patients alike, the necessity for having accurate and complete data is an absolute requirement.
“The Quality Data provider award demonstrates the high standards being met towards ensuring compliance with the NJR and is often a strong reflection of a departmental effort to achieve such status.”
