Police: DUI suspect denies being in crash

A Gainesville woman was arrested in Gainesville after police say she hit another car while driving with a blood alcohol level three times over the legal limit, according to a GPD report.

No one was reported to have been injured in the crash.

Police said in the report that multiple witnesses saw Sydney E. Denninger, 21, of 1216 SW Second Ave., turning south onto Northwest 13th Street from Northwest Third Avenue around 8 p.m. Saturday when her car struck another vehicle.

The witnesses checked on Denninger who they told police they found in the driver’s seat with the airbag deployed before she exited the vehicle.

When police arrived, they reportedly found Denninger outside her vehicle having difficulty maintaining her balance with urine soaked into some of her clothing.

Police said in the report that they asked Denninger to sit down. Instead, she tried to walk away from the scene and police placed her in handcuffs.

When told that she was in car crash, Denninger did not believe police and told them she had ordered an Uber to give her a ride home after having a drink at a midtown eatery. She also told police that she had been walking, and had not been driving, prior to the arrival of police, according to the report.

Denninger provided breath samples of .259 and .274., three times the legal limit of .08 in Florida.

Denninger was charged with a DUI with damage to property and was taken to the Alachua County jail where she was released on her own recognizance at noon on Sunday.
