January’s Clayton Conversation featuring Phillip Person has been cancelled and will be rescheduled. The program was originally planned for today.

Alma Library hosting craft programs

The Alma Public Library, 624 Fayetteville Ave. in Alma, will host an Adult Craft Party: Melted Crayon Canvas event at 2 p.m. Feb. 8. Supplies are provided, but space is limited and registration is required.

The Alma Public Library also will host a Valentine's Day Card Craft event for children, tweens and teens at 4 p.m. Feb. 12. Paper, markers, glitter and hearts will be provided to make homemade Valentine's cards.

Windsor Library offering February programs

The Windsor Branch of the Fort Smith Public Library, 4701 Windsor Drive, will offer several free programs for adult patrons during the month of February.

• Blind Date with a Book is a program for adults to encourage reading or to encourage trying a new author or genre for those who already read.

• Freedom Quilt Project is a community quilting project in honor of Black History Month. Once finished, the quilt will be displayed at the library.

• Adults Color Too! provides colored pencils and coloring pages for adults. Coloring can be a fun, friendly and stress-relieving activity.

The Alma Area Chamber of Commerce annual awards dinner will be held at 6 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Alma High School Student Union in Alma. Like the Chamber's Facebook page and share the awards dinner event on your own Facebook page to be entered in a drawing to win a free $45 gift card to Frank's Restaurant in Van Buren. The winner's name will be drawn of Feb. 8, and the winner will also receive two tickets to the Chamber award dinner.

Concert to benefit Steel Horse Rally

Bobaflex, .357 and Vertical Groove will perform a concert benefiting the Steel Horse Rally at 6 p.m. Feb. 10 at The Sound Room, 817 Garrison Ave. There will be an auction at the venue, and the full menu of food and beverages will be available. Admission is a minimum $10 donation.

Chamber seeking Leadership applicants

The Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce is accepting applications for its 2019 Leadership Fort Smith Class. The deadline to apply is May 18.

Leadership Fort Smith is a 10-month program that offers participants an overview of the Fort Smith region. The class focuses on strengths, challenges, needs and overall issues facing the region. Sessions cover topics such as health care, history, law, government and education. Additionally, participants will learn about economic development and meet and talk with the leaders of our region.

Only 25 participants are selected each year. Selection criteria includes, but is not limited to: demonstrated leadership or potential leadership ability and obvious commitment to the community. Anyone who lives or works in Fort Smith is eligible.

'Night to Remember' slated

Special Olympics Oklahoma–Area 10 and the Pervasive Parenting Center will host the third annual ‘A Night to Remember’ event, a formal dance for people with special needs, from 5-8 p.m. April 7 at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Center, 105 Reynolds Ave. in Poteau. The event is open to all individuals with special needs from ages 14 (or 8th grade) and up, regardless of where they are from. The dance will be sensory friendly with little-to-no flashing lights and a section for attendees to visit if they become over-stimulated or overwhelmed.

Farmers market help available

The Arkansas Agriculture Department and Farm Credit will sponsor the third annual Arkansas Farmers Market Promotion Program and the Arkansas Farmers Market Bag Program to build awareness of farmers market locations and their offerings. Grants are available to help with signage, advertising and social media campaigns.

Mount Magazine honored

Mount Magazine State Park in Paris was named one of the top 10 travel destinations in the state of Arkansas by USA Today's 10 Best Readers' Choice Awards, according to a recent news release from the Arkansas Department of Parks and Tourism. Mount Magazine ranked third in the poll.

A panel of experts coupled with 10 Best editors to pick the initial 20 nominees, then the top 10 winners were determined by popular vote, according to the release.
