Great River Bridge photo contest
The Great River Bridge is an asymmetrical, single tower cable-stayed bridge over the Mississippi River. It carries U.S. Route 34 from Burlington to the town of Gulfport, Illinois.
Construction began in 1989 and was complete in 1993 at a cost of $60 million. The main tower is 370 feet from the top of the tower to the riverbed.
It has become a defining landmark of our region and the natural beauty of the river and the architecture of the bridge makes a spectacular focal point for photographs.
The Hawk Eye wants to see those images and are sponsoring a contest. Submit your photos of the Great River Bridge through Feb. 2. Our photo department will choose the best of the best from all submissions and they will run in this section Feb. 4.
