CHIPLEY— A Chipley man died Saturday night after he was struck by a car while crossing the road, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

Grady Frank Payne, 78, was crossing State Road 77 near the Grassy Pond Road intersection about 6:35 p.m. when a vehicle traveling in the southbound lanes struck Payne, according to a release by FHP.

A 2001 Suzuki Swift driven by Encarnacion Burch, 39, of Marianna, was unable to avoid Payne, striking him head-on, the release said. Eddie Earnest, 49, also of Marianna was a passenger in the vehicle with Burch.

Charges are pending, according to FHP.
