Former Leader of Opposition in Gujarat Assembly and senior Congress leader Shanktisinh Gohil on Saturday wrote a letter to Gujarat Governor OP Kohli and saying that Vijay Rupani Government shouldn’t be allowed to appoint Parliamentary Secretaries (PS).
According to Gohil, the BJP led government in Gujarat was planning to appoint Parliamentary Secretaries to pacify simmering discontent amongst BJP MLAs. There are many who didn’t get berth in the Rupani’s Council of Ministers, claims the Congress leaders adding that now the Chief Minister Vijay Rupani could appease his disgruntled MLAs by appointing some of them as PS. “The appointment of PS is unconstitutional and subject to a contempt of court. The Supreme Court, in its July 26, 2017 order, had said that a state government has no right to appoint PS Hence the Governor must not allow the state Government to appoint PS,” said Gohil, who is also lawyer.
He went on to claim in the letter that despite being very well aware about the apex court’s order, the Chief Minister is in process to appoint Parliamentary Secretaries which is unconstitutional and amount to a contempt of court. The previous BJP Governments led by Rupani and even Narendra Modi in Gujarat had appointed PS.
