Not only will the Royal couple aim to perform their formal public duties in what is to be the first official trip to either country, but they will finally meet their counterparts to forge personal relationships.

They will meet the glamorous set of young European Royalty who they have lots of shared interests including being featured in glossy magazines around the world and having young children.

Communications secretary for the Duke and Duchess Jason Knauf, said: "From our perspective, it's a chance for Their Royal Highnesses to build a strong relationship with the Royal families of each country, and particularly the Royals of their generation who they will know throughout their lives.

“Those close relationships between countries on a people-to-people level are something that Royal visits are particularly good at highlighting.”

In Sweden they will be accompanied by Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel, while in Norway they will be escorted by Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit.

Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel attended the Royal Wedding in 2011, but it is understood the Duke and Duchess do not know either very well.

Also, they have never met the Crown Prince and Princess of Norway.

The Duke and Duchess share interests with their European counterparts including public work on young people, mental health, entrepreneurship and sport.

The Swedish Royal couple have two young children, while the Norwegians have three which means they are likely to bond over their families.

Both of the Scandinavian women have enjoyed an extensive education.

Victoria studied political science, conflict resolution and international peace-building at Yale.

She also completed work programmes around the world, speaks four languages fluently and has completed basic military training.

Mette-Marit studied ethics in Oslo before taking courses in development at SOAS, University of London.

On Tuesday and Wednesday Princess Victoria and her husband will accompany the Duke and Duchess to events about mental health, the innovation of Swedish design and a celebration of culture.

Victoria’s husband is a “commoner” and her former personal trainer.

Crown Prince Haakon and Mette-Marit will join them for engagements about mental health, the environment and start-up businesses.

On Thursday their teenage daughter Princess Ingrid Alexandra will take the Duke and Duchess on a personal tour of the palace sculpture park named after her.

The British Royal couple will also meet older generations.

One lunch will be hosted by the King and Queen of Sweden, another with the King and Queen of Norway, and a formal dinner in Norway where King Harald and the Duke will make speeches.
