Police and mountain rescue teams are searching the area round Dovestone reservoir for a missing man from Oldham.

Bernard Gaunt was reporting missing on Friday, January 26, and was last seen by a family member in the Dovestone area on Saturday afternoon.

Staff from the Oldham Mountain Rescue team have teamed up with police to search the area for the 51-year-old.

GMP Saddleworth and Lees posted on Facebook: “You may recall that Mr Gaunt went missing some days ago from an address at Werneth in Oldham.

“Bernard was seen by a family member in the Dovestones area yesterday (Saturday) afternoon and that initiated a search operation to be instigated primarily by the Oldham MRT supported by police officers.

“Police ask that our local Community stays vigilant and if you see someone matching the description given then please contact us immediately.”

Police have also released a new picture of Mr Gaunt, who is described as 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build with short greying hair.

He was last seen wearing a black jacket, beige bottoms, black training shoes with fluorescent flash up the sides and he was also carrying a dark colored rucksack.

Inspector Mark Lewis, of GMP’s Oldham borough, said: “It’s been a number of days since Bernard was last seen and the longer he is missing, the more worried we become.

“We originally released a photo of Bernard from around 20 years ago but we’re hoping with this new image, people will be able to recognise him if they see him and get in touch with us so we can find him.”

Anyone with information about where he might be is asked to call police on 0161 856 8922 or 101, quoting MP/18/0113028.
