Liverpool out of Aubameyang race
Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool are out of the race to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
"He is a great player but he does not play in a position for which we urgently need new players,” Klopp told DAZN.
Arsenal are closing in on a £60million deal for Aubameyang, who was a shadow of his usual self when playing in Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Freiburg.
Reports claim Aubameyang is keen to leave the Bundesliga side for the Premier League.
But Klopp insists the transfer saga does not reflect badly on the Gabon international.
"Auba is really a good guy,” he added.
“Of course, reading the newspapers, you ask yourself if all these things must happen.
"But in fact things are mostly not that controversial as they are presented. In the end everybody will be happy.
"In the first half of the season he also scored often although last summer he wanted to go to China allegedly.”
Mahrez to Liverpool...
Pat Nevin reckons Liverpool should sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester.
“Riyad Mahrez would thrive in this Liverpool team,” former Scotland international Pat Nevin told BBC 5 Live.
“Because he plays well in teams that have a lot of possession, and that play attacking football.
“Mahrez just looks like a Liverpool player to me, and if I was in charge at Liverpool, I'd be banging down Leicester's door to get him.”

Burley on Van Dijk
Liverpool are no better defensively with the addition of Virgil van Dijk, claims pundit Craig Burley.
Van Dijk could not prevent Liverpool from going down 3-2 at home to West Brom last night in the fourth round of the FA Cup at Anfield.
He said: “Liverpool took the lead and when that happened you thought ‘right, this is going to be four or five, job done, give the players a rest’ but no.
“And even with Virgil van Dijk in the side, and I know it’s going to take time, this was still a defensive shambles again from Liverpool. So no real change there.”
Lemar latest
Liverpool have baulked at Monaco’s £90m asking for Thomas Lemar and will not make a move for him this month.
But they are being encouraged to make an approach for winger Keita Balde, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Liverpool are keen to add more quality in attack after letting Coutinho join Barcelona.
And Balde would be an interesting option despite Klopp favouring a move for Lemar.
Michael Emenalo is trying to shift Balde this month after he was signed in the summer for £30m.
Alisson bid rejected
Liverpool have seen a bid for goalkeeper Alisson Becker rejected by Roma.
The Reds have seen their wallets swollen by the sale of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona and are looking at ways to add tot here squad.
And goalkeeper is a position that needs upgrading with Alisson a top target, but Il Tempo claim Roma have rejected Liverpool’s first move.
Roma are said to want £44m for the keeper and want him to stay until the end of the season.

Pastore blow
Javier Pastore has interested clubs on alert by admitting he could leave PSG - but says he’d like to return to Italy.
Liverpool have been linked with the Argentina ace who has struggled for game time this term.
Pastors would be a like-for-like replacement for Coutinho but his latest comments make a move seem unlikely.
He said: “I want to play more since my objective is to participate in this summer’s World Cup. PSG?”
“I am happy here but at the same time, I know that I risk losing out on the World Cup.
“I don’t know what will happen and yes there is a lot of talk about Inter Milan but let’s see. If I do leave, I would love to return to Italy since I know that league well.
“Even so, there isn’t any decisions that have been made yet.”
Sturridge latest
Liverpool have reportedly slashed their asking price for Daniel Sturbridge as they look to offload him this month.
Inter Milan have been in for Sturridge but are yet to reach an agreement with Liverpool previously after a £5m loan fee and his £150,000 a week wages paid in full.
The Sunday Mirror however claim Liverpool are happy to let him leave for a fee of £1.5m.
