LIMA — No stalling call was needed in the rematch between returning state qualifiers Daniel Beemer of Ottawa-Glandorf and Carey’s Tanner May this week.
Beemer cruised to a 6-1 win over May to win the 182-pound division at Saturday’s Lima Central Catholic Invitatonal. Beemer won last week’s battle with May 2-1 on penalty point for stalling in the finals of the Van Buren Invitational.
His performance was one of a number of solid efforts turned in by Ottawa-Glandorf in the 44-team event.
Grant Goecke reached the title match at 160 pounds for the Titans as he dropped a 20-4 decision to Nelsonville-York returning state runner-up Colt Yinger in the final.
Isaac Hernandez (126) was third and Danny Rosales dropped a 4-0 decision to Tiffin Calvert’s Connor Kwiat in a battle of returning state qualifiers for third place at 170 pounds. Brent Siefker added a seventh-place effort at 145 for the Titans.
Bluffton sophomore Landen Luginbuhl, who was unseeded with a 9-6 record, wrestled his way into the 195-pound finals as he wrestled in place of the Pirates’ 195-pound state qualifier Deandre Nassar, who sat out the tournament.
Luginbuhl recorded pins in his first two matches and stuck Nelsonville-York’s Colton Snyder in 5:20 in the semifinals. Luginbuhl dropped a 9-1 decision to Troy Christian’s Craig Montgomery in the final.
Patrick Henry’s Max Neiling (138) and James Badial-Luna (152) finished fourth and Carey’s Reece Mullholand (113), Columbus Grove’s Dylan Sargeant (220) and Lakota’s Dakota Klotz (285) placed fifth.
Carey’s Ethan Schlack (6th, 285) and Trent Phoenix (8th, 195), Lakota’s Darry Endicott (7th, 138) and Trevor Franks (7th, 152), Columbus Grove’s Dakota Sargeant (7th, 195) and Jeff Meyer (8th, 285) and Cory-Rawson’s Tyler Stoodt (8th, 126) and Deontae Davis (8th, 160) also finished in the top eight.
