FORECAST IN DETAIL
Let’s just say, I hope you got your all your outdoor desires done yesterday. Rain showers are the story through much of today, although at least we’re still rather mild. Colder air moves in by tomorrow night, when a little light snow could complicate things into the Tuesday morning commute. Another chance of wintry weather may arrive by Friday.

Today (Sunday): Showers are likely through much of the day, as a weak wave of low pressure develops along a passing front. Areas north and northwest of D.C. may see the showers let up some during the afternoon. When it’s not actively raining, fog or mist is possible with low-level moisture remaining trapped. Temperatures are mainly steady, in the low 50s to near 50, with light winds. Confidence: Medium-High
Tonight: Showers linger into the evening, gradually diminishing from west to east during the late evening into the overnight. It’s not out of the question our western suburbs see a flake or two before the precipitation totally shuts off. But with overnight lows only down to the mid-to-upper 30s, it ain’t gonna stick. Skies stay mostly cloudy after the showers depart, with light winds from the north at less than 10 mph. Confidence: Medium-High

Tomorrow (Monday): A new system approaches tomorrow, this time in the upper levels of the atmosphere, keeping us partly to mostly cloudy with a few isolated rain or snow showers possible. Afternoon highs should make the mid-40s to near 50. Confidence: Medium
Tomorrow night: The chance of snow showers starts to increase during the evening as we drop into the 30s. Overnight, as temperatures fall toward lows near 30 to the low 30s, snow showers or a period of light snow could accumulate a dusting to an inch or so. Stay tuned for updates and potential impacts on the Tuesday morning commute, schools, etc. Confidence: Low-Medium
A LOOK AHEAD
Tuesday knocks us back into winter reality. Any snow should diminish by mid-morning, but then comes the windy chill. Winds from the northwest gusting near or past 30 mph usher in the cold, holding temperatures in the 30s, even with increasing sunshine. With the wind it fees more like the 20s. Tuesday night we’re clear and cold, with lows in the upper teens to low 20s, plus a lingering breeze. Confidence: Medium
At least the wind relaxes on Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies under the influence of high pressure. But we’re still dealing with that chill, as highs remain stuck in the 30s. Confidence: Medium
