Even if Manny Machado doesn’t switch teams this season, he almost certainly will be changing his position in the infield.

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter said Saturday at the team’s FanFest that Machado will move from third base to shortstop this spring, and shortstop Tim Beckham will be shifted to third.

The shuffle will become permanent unless something goes wrong — or Machado gets traded to another club.

“There could be some adjustments if we don’t like the feel of it, but that’s where we’re going to head into it,” Showalter said.

Machado can become a free agent after this year and is sure to demand a huge contract. The Orioles have entertained trade offers for the 25-year-old, who’s been an All-Star in three of his six seasons with Baltimore.

Tottenham still

alive in FA Cup

Tottenham survived a huge scare in the FA Cup as a late Harry Kane goal rescued a 1-1 draw at fourth-tier Newport in the fourth round.

Newport led for 44 minutes until Kane’s 82nd-minute equalizer but the League Two side held on at 10,000-seat Rodney Parade to secure a rich replay at 90,000-seat Wembley Stadium.

West Ham wasn’t so fortunate as it was eliminated by third-tier Wigan 2-0. With his team down 1-0, West Ham defender Arthur Masuaku was sent off four minutes into the second half for spitting at Wigan midfielder Nick Powell and faces a lengthy ban.

Watford was the only other top-tier club to go out as it lost at fellow English Premier League side Southampton 1-0.

•Cristiano Ronaldo scored two first-half goals to lead Real Madrid past Valencia 4-1, breaking Madrid’s four-game winless streak away from home in the Spanish league.

•Edinson Cavani scored in the 11th minute to become Paris Saint-Germain’s all-time leading scorer with 157 goals in a 4-0 home win against Montpellier in the French league.

College football: Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta threw three second-half touchdown passes and Texas-San Antonio’s Marcus Davenport scored on a 19-yard fumble return to lead the South team to a 45-16 victory over the North in the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Ala.

Lauletta more than held his own in elite quarterback company to cap the weeklong audition for NFL teams. That group included Oklahoma Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield and Wyoming’s Josh Allen, a potential No. 1 overall draft pick who also had a huge third quarter.

Lauletta completed 8 of 12 passes for 198 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown strike to LSU’s DJ Chark and some other nice downfield throws. Davenport, projected as a likely first-rounder and potential top-10 pick, scooped up a fumble forced by Mississippi’s Marquis Haynes to punctuate a big third quarter.

Allen finished 9-for-13 passing for 158 yards and two touchdowns.

Mayfield played only the North’s first two drives, going 3-for-7 for 9 yards. He was named the game’s top quarterback after the practice sessions.
