Cousins was recently announced as an All-Star starter but he had to be helped off the court in the dying seconds of the Pelican’s 115-113 win over the Houston Rockets today.

After jumping up to his missed free throw with Trevor Ariza, Cousins immediately fell to the floor in pain.

As he tried to get back up to put weight on it, he realised the severity of the injury and was helped off the court by team staff.

Cousins is expected to undergo an MRI at some point in the next few hours to discover the full extent of the injury.

And Pelicans head coach Alvin Gentry revealed his devastation for the 27-year-old.

"We're scared about it," Gentry. "I feel horrible for him.

“Everything that he's done, and what he's tried to do for us this year and what he's made himself and the improvements in all areas that he's made on and off the court, has just been great.

“I don't want that to happen to a guy that's trying to better himself."

As soon as the news broke, fellow NBA stars from across the league sent Couins their well wishes.

LeBron James, who picked Cousins for his All-Star team, said: “Thoughts out to @boogiecousins! Hope you good big fella.”
