A team of Army personnel has set out on a nine-day-long land yachting expedition across the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat. Its goal is to create awareness about environmental issues and also inspire youth to join the Army, a defence release said today. 'Land yachting', also called 'land sailing', involves riding a wheeled vehicle which has a sail attached to it and which is powered by wind. A team of 26 personnel led by Captain Ashok Choudhary will travel some 500 km across the Rann of Kutch as part of the 69th Republic Day celebration, the release stated. The expedition was flagged off at Bhuj yesterday and will conclude on February 3. The team would be sailing over "barren flat lands of Rann" and exploring places like Dharamshala, Shaktibet and Dhordo, the release said.
