IPL Auction 2018 Live: Ben Stokes, KL Rahul and Manish Pandey get highest bids, Chris Gayle unsold

The Indian Premier League auction for season 11 is underway today and tomorrow has 578 players up for grabs, out of the 1,122 players which include 244 capped players

The Indian Premier League auction for season 11 that is underway today has 578 players up for grabs, out of the 1,122 players which include 244 capped players  (62 from India), 332 uncapped players (34 from overseas), and two players from Associate countries. 

England's controversial all-rounder Ben Stokes who was touted as the big overseas pick for this IPL edition was bought by Rajasthan Royals at a whopping Rs 12.5 crore. Indian opening batsman, KL Rahul was sold to Kings XI Punjab for a whopping Rs 11 crore. Like KL Rahul, Manish Pandey was sold for the same price of Rs 11 crore, to Sunrisers Hyderabad.  However, the big shocker for the first part of the IPL auction was Royal Challengers Bangalore's power-packed batsman Chris Gayle going unsold.

Indian cricketer Kedar Jadhav was purchased by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 7.80 crore. All-rounder Chris Lynn was sold for Rs 9.60 crore to the Kolkata Knight Riders. Big-hitter Glenn Maxwell was sold to Delhi Daredevils for Rs 9 crore.

Shikhar Dhawan was the first player to be sold. Initially, he was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 5. 20 crores, but Sunrisers Hyderabad retained him via rights to match. Indian spinner R Ashwin was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 7.60 crore.  Faf du Plessis was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 1.6 crore by Right to Match. Kolkata Knight Riders used the same approach of RTM to buy Robin Uthappa for Rs 6.40 crore. Ambati Rayudu was purchased by Chennai Super Kings for Rs 2.20 crore.

Mumbai Indians' star all-rounder Kieron Pollard was retained back via Rights to Match by his IPL team for Rs 5. 60 crores. Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.40 crore. Dinesh Karthik was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 7.40 crore. Mitchell Johnson, Josh Hazelwood, Naman Ojha, Hashim Amla and Martin Guptill, too, shared the same fate as Chris Gayle, going unsold.

Yuvraj Singh was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 2 crore. Harbhajan Singh was bought by Chennai Super Kings for a base price at Rs 2 crore. Sanju Samson was sold to Rajasthan Royals for a price of Rs 8 crore. Shakib Al Hasan was sold at base price Rs 2 crore to Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH also purchased New Zealand's Kane Williamson for Rs 3 crore. Opener Jos Buttler was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4.40 crore, while Bangladesh cricketer Mustafizur Rahman and Pat Cummins were sold by Mumbai Indians for Rs 2.20 crore and 5.40 crore. Indian batsman Murali Vijay and all-rounder James Faulkner remained unsold at the auction.

Ajinkya Rahane was retained by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 4 crores via Rights to Match. Indian batsman Karun Nair was purchased by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 5.60 crore. David Miller was sold to Kings XI Punjab for Rs 3 crore by Rights to Match. Shane Watson was sold to Chennai Super Kings for Rs 4 crore.

England all-rounder Chris Woakes was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 7.40 crore. Aaron Finch with a base price of Rs 1.5 crore, was sold at Rs 6.20 crore to Kings XI Punjab. indian wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 5 crore. Hard-hitting batsman Brendon McCullum, who scored the second highest individual score in IPL, was sold to Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 3.60 crore. England cricketer Jason Roy was bought by Delhi Daredevils for Rs 1.50 crore. Colin Grandhomme was bought by RCB for Rs 2.2 crore. Jonny Bairstow remained unsold at the IPL auction.

Yusuf Pathan was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 1.90 crore. New Zealand's Colin Munro was sold at the same price to Delhi Daredevils. All-rounder Stuart Binny was sold to Rajasthan Royals for Rs 50 lakh. KXIP used Right To Match and retain Marcus Stoinis for Rs 6.20 crore. Spinner Moeen Ali bought by RCB for Rs 1.70 crore. Indian opening batsman Parthiv Patel remains unsold, while Quinton de Kock was bought by RCB for Rs 2.80 crore. England cricketer Sam Billings went unsold at the IPL auction.

The IPL players were separated into different categories with 'marquee' list consisting of 16 players up for bid in two batches.

IPL franchises retained a few of their star performers. Chennai Super Kings has retained MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja. Mumbai Indians have retained Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. Royal Challengers Bangalore have retained Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers. Sunrisers HyderabadDelhi Daredevils have retained Chris Morris, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer. Kolkata Knight Riders have retained Andre Russell and Sunil Narine. Rajasthan Royals have only retained Steve Smith.
