SAD flays closure of 1,647 sewa kendras

Chandigarh: SAD on Saturday slammed the Punjab Congress government's decision to shut down 1,647 sewa kendras, claiming it had struck a death knell on the governance reforms initiated by the SAD-BJP government.

Former minister and SAD spokesman Daljit Singh Cheema said, "This government has been promising ghar ghar naukari but it seems to be working to snatch jobs from each and every household in the state. All youth who have lost their jobs due to this draconian decision should be adjusted in other jobs immediately."

Cheema further added that it was also shocking that the government was announcing it would house aanganwadis and panchayat ghars in the sewa kendras. He said sewa kendras were built at a cost of Rs 200 crore to provide 78 public services including caste certificate, birth and death services and social security pensions in both rural and urban areas. "Instead of taking this reformatory step, which has been copied by other states, the Congress government wants to go back and utilize this modern infrastructure to house facilities which are already available to the people," said the Akali leader.
