For the first time in the Republic Day Parade, the Income Tax Department had its very own tableau, which showcased its ‘Operation Clean Money’ drive.
The I-T Department chose the theme for its tableau this year amid the government’s effort to fight black money, which included the announcement of demonetisation on November 8, 2016. The tableau also depicted how clean money is required for the nation’s development.
Operation Clean Money endeavours to create a tax compliant society through a fair, transparent and non-intrusive tax administration, where every India takes pride in paying taxes, said an I-T Department official.
“As the drive against black funds is a major flagship of the government, the tableau speaks about clean money and how it can be used to create a strong country,” the official added.
The front part of the tableau showed the collective support of the people for the clean money drive.
The middle depicted how possession of unaccounted wealth only brings mental stress and anxiety. The rear part of the tableau showcased how I-T payment contributes to the nation-building process.
The tableau also highlighted the tax-payer friendly approach of the department, where the “honest tax payer has nothing to fear”, but at the same time it keeps an “eagle eye on tax evaders through use of technology and data analytics”.
Sports tableau
The tableau for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports also drove down Rajpath after a gap of four years.
The tableau promoted the ministry’s flagship programme, Khelo India. The theme was based on the essence of Khelo India program, which integrates sports with education and broad-basing of sports.
