RPI claimed the inaugural women's ice hockey Mayor's Cup with a 2-1 victory over rival Union on Saturday at Times Union Center in Albany.

The Engineers scored twice in the second period to build a 2-0 lead and held off the Dutchwomen's rally in the third to take home the trophy.

Sabrina Repaci put RPI on the scoreboard at the 11-minute, 44-second mark of the second with a power-play goal to give the Engineers a 1-0 lead. Blake Orosz scored her fifth goal of the season for RPI just before the close of the period, at 18:04, to send the Engineers into the third with a 2-0 advantage.

RPI held the two-goal lead until 14:41 of the final period when Katie Laughlin scored her fifth goal of the season to cut the advantage in half, 2-1.

But the Engineers' defense held on from there with goaltender Lovisa Selander keeping the net clean and picking up the win.

Union plays host to Princeton while RPI welcomes Quinnipiac to Troy on Friday with both games set for 6 p.m. starts.
