Move to show that the police are not biased

A day after the district police ensured all the suspects in the murder of Boddupalli Srinivas were in its custody, a top police officer from a neighbouring district was brought in as the special investigation officer (SIO) to inquire into the murder, sources in the police said.

With the interrogation nearing completion on Saturday evening, it is learnt the police would produce all the arrested before the media on Sunday.

Murder of B. Srinivas, husband of Municipal Chairperson B. Lakshmi, during the wee hours on Thursday shook Nalgonda. The Congress leaders alleged political conspiracy as the victim was a long-time follower of Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkat Reddy.

Hyderabad Range Inspector General of Police Stephen Raveendra roped in a specialist officer from another district “to reassure the police’s unbiased interrogation,” particularly when the incident attracted political attention. Sources said there were at least 10 persons in police custody, including those that gave shelter and protected the accused while they were on the run.

A senior police officer on Saturday said the “murder was over personal reasons and some settlements”, and a complete list of crimes committed by each person had been prepared.

It is learnt that the police are planning to make the accused speak before the media.
