Female colleague Gavin Williamson 'shared kiss' with was in tears, it was claimed

Pressure was mounting  on Gavin Williamson, the Defence Secretary, to explain the circumstances surrounding his departure from a previous job after it was claimed a woman he “shared a kiss” with was in tears when reporting to her boss.

Mr Williamson had insisted that he left a North Yorkshire fireplace company 14 years ago on “amicable terms” after kissing a married colleague a “couple of times”.

He said he could not return as manager at Elgin & Hall owned by Aga because it would remind him of how he had let his wife, Joanne, down.

However, a former senior member of staff who worked at the factory said he saw the young woman the politician had been involved with in tears as she reported an “incident” to her manager in 2004.

His account is the second source who worked at the plant near the market town of Bedale to claim Mr Williamson was the subject of a meeting with managers.
