Lindsey Aparicio, 33, of Bound Brook, was killed in an early morning crash on the Garden State Parkway in Middletown, according to the State Police.
The accident was reported at 7:16 a.m. Aparicio was driving a Ford F-150 pickup that left the local lanes at mile marker 110.9 southbound, crossed the median into the express lanes, and struck a guardrail, according to Trooper Alejandro Goez. Aparicio, who was traveling alone, was ejected from the truck and pronounced dead at the scene, he said.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation at 10 a.m. The accident was one of several early Saturday amid widespread reports of black ice that triggered a speed reduction on the Parkway to 45 mph.
There were reports of multiple crashes on Route 18 in Tinton Falls, including one that involved a police officer, that resulted in the roadway being closed in both directions. No further information was readily available Saturday.
There also was a two-vehicle accident reported with serious injuries at 6:05 a.m. on Interstate 195 at mile marker 27.2 near the interchange with Route 9, Trooper Goez said. He did not have additional details.
Later in the morning, at 7:17 a.m., two passengers were injured when the Ford Escape they were riding in swerved off the road near Parkway milepost 75 southbound in Lacey and overturned in a wooded area, Goez said. The driver of the SUV, Samuel Farrell IV, 23, of the Browns Mills section of Pemberton, was unhurt, Goez said.
Farrell's front seat passenger, Joseph Varallo, 23, of Margate City, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries, Goez said. The rear passenger, Maurice Holloway, 23, of Egg Harbor, was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, Goez said. No further information about his condition was available Saturday.
In Brick, an initial investigation points to an icy roadway as a contributing factor in a two-vehicle, head-on crash on Beaverson Boulevard near Old Toms River Road at 7:33 a.m. Saturday. Both drivers were injured and taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, police said.
Police identified the drivers as Robert Himpele Jr., 57, of Toms River, who fractured his wrist, and Karla MacCarrone, 48, of Toms River, who suffered internal injuries.
Himpele was driving a gray Toyota Tundra pickup, and MacCarrone was driving a white Acura MDX, police said. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact the Traffic Safety Unit at (732) 262-1140.
