SEACOAST ROUNDUP: Hawks top Westbrook, rise to 13-1 in Class A South

SOUTH BERWICK, Maine — The Marshwood High School girls basketball team turned up the defensive pressure in the middle quarters to pull away from Westbrook, 46-20, in Class A South action on Friday night.

Marshwood (13-1) trailed 9-8 after the first quarter, but its defensive pressure paid dividends as it outscored Westbrook 24-7 in the second and third quarters to go up 33-16. The Blue Blazes dropped to 2-11.

Kara Anderson and Noelle Barrett led the way with 10 points each.

The Hawks play at Falmouth Tuesday.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mount Royal 49, Farmington 46

SUNAPEE — The Tigers trailed by as many as 13 points in the second half. They cut the lead to one with 4.8 seconds to go but could not complete the comeback.

Farmington (6-2) was led by Katie Martineau with 24 points and three assists, while Shannon Kobbe added six points, Chloe Weeks had four points and six rebounds, and Erryn Ebare chipped in with four points and four boards.

The Tigers host Portsmouth Christian Saturday. Mount Royal moved to 9-2.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Somersworth 76, Franklin 35

SOMERSWORTH — The Hilltoppers jumped out to a 43-22 lead at the half, finished and improved to 9-1 in Division III.

Somersworth was led by Evan Gray with 23 points. Bryton Early added 14, while Ethan Johnson had 10 and Tyler Clark had nine.

The Hilltoppers start a critical week by playing at Campbell (6-2) Monday.

St. Thomas 48, Laconia 44

LACONIA — The Saints held on to win on the road and even their D-III record at 5-5.

STA led 39-28 after three, and weathered a fourth-quarter storm that saw Laconia cut the lead to four.

Shawn DeKorne led the way with 17 points and Andrew Cavanaugh added 15.

St. Thomas hosts D-IV Portsmouth Christian Monday.

York 90, Poland 38

YORK, Maine — Riley Linn scored all 17 of his points in the first quarter as the Wildcats rolled to 10-4 in Class A South.

Hayden Ott added 14 points and Brady Cummins had 12 for York, which saw all 13 players score in the triumph. York travels to Freeport on Tuesday.

Marshwood girls take first, boys are second

BRIDGTON, Maine — The Marshwood girls ski team took first during a six-team slalom meet Friday at Shawnee Peak.

The Hawks had 24 points to easily outdistance second-place Kennebunk, which had 49.

The Marshwood boys had 32 to place second behind Falmouth/Waynflete with 17.

Katie Mundell was second overall for the girls with a combined time of 1:00.29. Alayna Melino (fifth, 1:02.94), Brooke Flynn (seventh, 1:04.21) and Alexandra Gale (10th, 1:07.32) were other leaders.

Jack Flynn was second for the boys in 49.08 seconds. Sean Maguire was fifth in 56.47, while Tucker Davis was eighth in 59 seconds. Jacob Sansoucie was 18th in 1:14.59.

The Hawks are back in action Monday at Shawnee Peak.
