Davos, Jan 27: US-backed coalition forces had won nearly all of the territories occupied by the Islamic State group in Iraq and Syria, claimed United States President Donald Trump at World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Friday
In a speech at the WEF, Trump asserted,”The coalition to defeat ISIS has retaken almost 100 percent of the territory once held by these killers in Iraq and Syria.”
“There is still more fighting and work to be done and to consolidate our gains,” he added.
Reacting on Afghanistan, which recently witnessed two ghastly attacks – one on the office of ‘Save the Children’ organisation in Jalalabad and the other one on Kabul’s Intercontinental hotel, Trump said,”We are committed to ensuring that Afghanistan never again becomes a safe haven for terrorists who want to commit mass murder to our civilian populations.”
IS had claimed responsibility for the deadly attack that left at least two people dead and 14 others wounded.
When it comes to terrorism, Trump said the US would do what is necessary to defend its citizens and borders. “Efforts are on for securing the country’s immigration system as a matter of both national and economic security, the US president assured.
