Panaji: Five nobel laureates will attend a mega international science event 'Nobel Prize Series' at Panaji from February 1 to February 3, 2018.
The department of science and technology will organize the event in collaboration with department of biotechnology, ministry of science and technology, government of India and Nobel Media AB, Sweden. This is the second edition of the series and the first was held last year in Gujarat. The five Nobel laureates are Christiane Nisslein-Volhard, the nobel prize in physiology or medicine (1995), J Michael Bishop, MD, University of California, San Francisco, the nobel prize in physiology or medicine (1989), Richard J Roberts, the nobel prize in physiology or medicine (1993), Serge Haroch, the nobel prize in physics (2012) and Tomas Lindahl, the nobel prize in chemistry (2015).
Speaking to mediapersons, chief minister Manohar Parrikar said that this event is aimed to generate a scientific temperament among students by educational upgradation. The purpose is to focus on the importance of science, in order to inspire the young students to pursue education and career in science for innovation and scientific growth.
The event shall benefit school students as well as students at the college level, students of technical institutions and researchers. On February 1 the nobel exhibition will be inaugurated at Kala Academy by the chief minister, followed by the inaugural function.
On February 2, there will be a nobel dialogue at Kala Academy in the morning session with students and in the afternoon session with teachers. Similarly, February 3 will see be a nobel dialogue with students and teachers of high schools and higher secondary schools (science stream) at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao. The five nobel prize winners will also have a session with industry at the Old Secretariat.
