MUNCIE, Ind. — Down two starters to illness, Israel Nash put Monroe Central on his back Friday night. Literally.
Nash scored just nine in the first half as the Golden Bears found themselves down by as many as 17 in the third quarter. But the senior poured in 38 second-half points – and tied the school record with 47 total – as Monroe Central came back to beat Blue River 71-64 (2OT).
His biggest bucket of the night came in overtime. Blue River hit a 3-pointer to take the lead, and Nash (somehow) drained a running 3-pointer off one leg to force double overtime. Here's the video of that shot:
Nash is having quite the senior season. He came into this game averaging 25.1 points per game, which was ninth in the state according to maxpreps.com. That average is going up now.
Monroe Central is 7-8 and will look to gain some momentum in the season's final six games.
