Highlights

15:57(IST)

SOLD: Royal Challengers Bangalore won the race to sign Chinaman Kuldeep Yadav for Rs 5.80 Crore. However, Kolkata Knight Riders were having none of it as they used their Right to Match again and retained his services. Kolkata have retained the core of their squad and this is another successful addition.

15:50(IST)

SOLD: Delhi Daredevils may have thought they got their second spinner in Yuzvendra Chahal, who was the leading wicket-taker in the shortest format of the game in 2017. But RCB chose to use the RTM card and Chahal is back with them for Rs 6 Crore. Yuzvendra Chahal is also the first legspinner to pick up a fifer as well as 6 wicket haul in a T20I and has the record for the best bowling as a legspinner in T20I history (6/25).

15:42(IST)

SOLD: Amit Mishra has been one of the most consistent performers for the Delhi Daredevils over the years and therefore, Ricky Ponting's team have gone again for the leggie and acquired his services for Rs 4 Crore. The attacking right-arm leg-break bowler has played 75 matches and taken 78 wickets at an economy of 7.49. On 17 April 2013 in season 6 of Indian Premier League (IPL 2013) he took a hat-trick playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad against Pune Warriors India and with this hat-trick, he became the first player in IPL history to take three hat-tricks. He has previously taken hat-trick in IPL 2008 playing for Delhi Daredevils against Deccan Chargers and then again in IPL 2011 playing for Deccan Chargers against Kings XI Punjab.

15:40(IST)

SOLD: No surprises there as Rashid Khan has been retained by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Kings XI Punjab had beaten the likes of Mumbai Indians and Delhi Daredevils to win the race for his signature. However, SRH used the right to match card to retain the player.

15:33(IST)

The battle is heating up for Afghanistan star Rashid Khan as his price has already over 6 Cr. In June 2017, Rashid took his second ODI five-wicket haul, finishing with figures of 7 wickets for 18 runs against the West Indies at Gros Islet. It was the fourth best ODI bowling figures and first by an associate nation cricketer to take 7 wickets. He was named the ICC Associate Cricketer of the Year in January 2018. For the 14 matches that he played for SRH, Rashid has taken 17 wickets at an economy of 6.62.

15:27(IST)

SOLD: Mumbai Indians tried their hard to bring back Karn Sharma who had a base price of Rs 2 Cr. But Chennai Super Kings out big them and landed the star spinner for Rs 5 Crore. Finally, coach Stephen Fleming gets something to smile about.

15:24(IST)

SOLD: Chennai Super Kings may have got the bargain of the auction as they landed Imran Tahir for just Rs 1 Cr. Tahir last played for Delhi Daredevils in the league and was one of their most top performing players in the league last year.

15:21(IST)

SOLD: Up now are the spinners and currently, Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians are fighting it out to acquire the services of Piyush Chawla. CSK finally trump other to buy Chawla for 4.2 cr. But at the last minute, KKR come forward to retain the player and Chawla will once again play for Kolkata.

15:11(IST)

Delhi Daredevils have done well to retain their two main bowlers - Kagiso Rabada and Mohammed Shami. They used their right to match card on both of them and trumped other teams well. Ricky Ponting will be happy that he managed to retain these two premier pace bowlers.

15:08(IST)

SOLD: Delhi Daredevils have once again used the Right to Match to great affect as they bring back Kagiso Rabada into their squad. Rabada was bought for 4.2 Cr by Chennai Super Kings but DD came forwards to retain one of the best young pace bowlers in th world right now.

15:06(IST)

UNSOLD: Ishant Sharma has been biggest Indian name once again to be not picked by anyone in the auction. He wasn't picked last year as well. The other big names to be not picked by any team are Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan, Tim Southee, Josh Hazlewood and Mithcell Johnson.

15:03(IST)

SOLD: Mohammed Shami has been retained by Delhi Daredevils after they used the the Right to Match card for him. Shami was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 3 Crore but Delhi were having none of it as they retained him for the same value.

14:58(IST)

SOLD: India pacer Umesh Yadav has been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs 4.2 Cr. Kolkata Knight Riders had the option to use the RTM card but they chose not to. Umesh will now play under the leader of national skipper Virat Kohli.

14:52(IST)

SOLD: Seems like Mumbai Indians are going all-out for bowlers as after getting hold of Mustafizur, they sign Pat Cummins for 5.4 Cr. CSK were also interested and went uptil 5.2 Cr but once MI bid 5.4 Cr, they stopped short. Cummins last played for Delhi in the league.

14:47(IST)

SOLD: Time for bowlers to come under the hammer and the first bowler to be sold is Mustafizur Rahman, who is bought by Mumbai Indians for Rs 2.2 Cr. The Fizz is Mumbai's second player of the auction today. The Mumbai owners seem happy with their buy.

14:45(IST)

SOLD: Jos Buttler is one of the most explosive wicket-keeper batsman in the world right now and Rajasthan didn't wait that long to acquire the services of the star Englishman for 4.4 Cr. Royals had already bought Samson so they really didn't need another wicket-keeper but they have bought Buttler for his attacking batting.

14:41(IST)

SOLD:  When Ambati Rayudu's card came up, there were no takers for him at the early stage but then came along CSK and they bought him for Rs 2.2 crore. Rayudu plied his trade at Mumbai Indians last time around and now he will get a chance to play under MS Dhoni this season.

14:36(IST)

Kolkata have bought two keepers in a go now - Dinesh Karthik and Robin Uthappa (RTM). Both these players came at respective hefty price tags, but their experience and talent at the biggest stage got them the money that they deserved.

14:34(IST)

SOLD: Sanju Samson will be laughing his way to the bank now as he is sold to Rajasthan Royals for a whopping amount of 8 Cr. Mumbai Indians once again targetted the wicket-keeper but the Royals out bid them for Samson. Samson last played for Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.

14:25(IST)

SOLD: After an intense bidding war  between Mumbai and Rajasthan, Robin Uthappa was sold to the defending champion after they out bid the first time champions. Mumbai thought they had landed Uthappa for Rs 6.4 Cr but Kolkata Knight Riders jumped in the last minuted and used the RTM card to poach him. Another blow to Mumbai.

14:22(IST)

Quinton de Kock is one of the most explosive wicketkeeper-batsman in the world at the moment and with RCB buying him, they are not just adding a keeper to the line-up but also someone who can hit a few out of the park.

14:20(IST)

SOLD: Dinesh Karthik once again rakes in the moolah in the auction as this time he is sold for a massive amount of  Rs 7.4 Cr to Kolkata Knight Riders. This year, he has been performing really well in the domestic circuit and he has part of the Indian team recently as well. So he has been rewarded for it.

14:16(IST)

Good buy for Sunrisers Hyderabad and this solves their problem for a wicket-keeper.

14:14(IST)

SOLD: After an Intense bidding war between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians, SRH win the race for Wridhhiman Saha. The Indian wicket-keeper for Test cricket — Saha — goes for a whopping amount of Rs 5 Cr. Saha's selling price is way ahead of his base price and that shows he was in demand for this auction.

14:08(IST)

SOLD: The first wicket-keeper to be sold in the IPL auction this time is Quinton de Kock and he goes to Royal Challengers Bangalore for 2.8 Crores. Delhi Daredevils had the option to use the RTM card for him but they chose no to do so. Good buy for RCB as de Kock is one of the most explosive wicket-keeper batsman out there.

14:03(IST)

UNSOLD: There are no takers for Parthiv Patel today atleast as he goes unsold in the auction. The teams will get a chance to bit for him again later on in the auction but at this moment, Parthiv is team-less in the IPL. Jonny Bairstow also goes unsold in the auction and so does Naman Ojha.

13:54(IST)
13:51(IST)

The fourth phase of the auction is all set to get underway and we will probably have bowlers in this round. Lets see who all players will move where and there are still many players up for grabs for the franchisees to act upon.

13:30(IST)

Surprising strategy from Chennai Super Kings as they have opted for rather 'old' players in the auction so far. CSK retained Dhoni, Raina and Jadeja and now they have bought Harbhajan and Watson, while they opted to use the RTM card for Du Plessis. Lets see how they will go about things in the latter stages of the auction.

13:08(IST)
13:07(IST)

SOLD: Royal Challengers Bangalore get their hands on another star all-rounder as they acquire the services Moeen Ali. The star English all-rounder is a maverick cricketer and he will do well under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

IPL Auction 2018 LIVE Updates: Rashid, Chahal & Kuldeep Retained; Stokes Stays Top Buy

PREVIEW: Hope and despair will walk hand in hand when some of the world cricket's biggest names go under the hammer during the two-day IPL players' auctions starting on Saturday with the likes of Ben Stokes and R Ashwin expected to be among the most sought after.
This year's auction will feature 578 players in all with 361 of them being Indians. There are 16 top players awarded marquee status and a base price of Rs 2 crore with notable among them being Stokes, Ashwin, Shikhar Dhawan, Mitchell Starc, Chris Gayle, and Dwayne Bravo to name a few.
After his record breaking Rs 14.5 crore bid during the last edition, world's premier all-rounder Ben Stokes is once again likely to force the franchises into loosening their purse strings. There hasn't been an IPL auction of this magnitude since the inception year of 2008 where so many premier Indian stars were up for grabs.
Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane may have fallen out of favour in the national team as far as the shortest format is concerned but as current India players, the franchises are expected to show a lot of interest in them. Someone like Kedar Jadhav, who can bat, bowl off-spin and keep wickets, is likely to be retained by the Royal Challengers Bangalore.
Wrist spinners like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will be high in demand. Ditto for players like KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, and Dinesh Karthik, who have had success in this format. Since quality wrist spinners are the need of the hour in T20, Afghan sensation Rashid Khan Arman is again likely to laugh his way to the bank.
While Mahendra Singh Dhoni recently said that Chennai Super Kings will bid for their local man but with no Right To Match (RTM) available for Ashwin, it will be interesting to note how far the two-time champions go for the burly offie. But a cursory glance at CSK's buying pattern will indicate that left-arm paceman Starc may be on their wishlist as Dhoni has always had a Doug Bollinger or Ashish Nehra in earlier years.
If RCB uses RTM for Starc then Jaydev Unadkat, after a great IPL last year, could be an option for the 'Canary Yellow' army. The CSK will go all out while using RTM for West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, easily one of Dhoni's trusted lieutenants during his best years.
However, perennial underachievers, Delhi Daredevils have no such compulsions as they may go the whole hog for Ashwin along with Gautam Gambhir, who looks a serious candidate to lead the capital franchise. DD have been known to make some outrageous decisions over the years which have completely backfired.
It won't be surprising that their desperation to get a leader and match-winner would prompt them to go the distance. For KKR, retaining Gambhir is an option but then they wouldn't have released him for the auction in the first place. The Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise is more likely to use its RTM for the prolific T20 dasher Chris Lynn, who has had some success with them.
Rajasthan Royals, who had only retained Steve Smith, have the highest purse left and may go the distance for someone like West Indian swashbuckler Evin Lewis, who has smashed two T20 international hundreds against India.
Similarly, Colin Munro will be in demand for his recent exploits in T20 cricket. Kieron Pollard, who recently played the 400th T20 match of his career, is expected to be back at the Mumbai Indians, who are all but certain to use their RTM.
Kings XI Punjab may get Harbhajan Singh in their ranks as he is still a force to reckon with in this format. He is an economical bowler and a handy lower-order batsman. More importantly, he is captaincy material having led Mumbai Indians to Champions League T20 triumph. With each team needing at least a minimum of 10 Indian players, the likes of Krunal Pandya, Basil Thampi, Avesh Khan, Deepak Hooda are expected to get good deals.
There is also a fair bit of excitement about some of the India U-19 players -- especially Kamlesh Nagarkoti, who has been regularly clocking mid 140 clicks during the ongoing colts World Cup. His pace bowling partner Shivam Mavi and the team's skipper Prithvi Shaw are expected to get deals.
The Punjab duo of Shubhman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are also on the radar of the franchises. Among the uncapped foreign players, West Indies born pacer Jofra Archer, who has been a find of this edition of Big Bash League (BBL).

IPL auction can be followed live on the Star Sports network and live streaming will be available on hotstar.com. For the
