An antique affair

Muscat -

The Al Taiyibin exhibition at the Naseem Gardens is an antique lover’s paradise. From rare ancient coins, vintage cameras, music system, telephones to old soft drink cans and bottles, the exhibition is sure to charm vintage lovers and others alike.

The exhibition is curated by 38 year old Humood al Hadrami. In 2013, the curator had held an exhibition of rare coins at the Muscat Festival and has since come up with exhibitions that have enthralled visitors of all categories.

“I started by collecting old coins some 18 years ago. And slowly, I also started collecting other items such as cameras, mobile phones, old televisions and record players. You can see 300 such items here this year.” Hadrami’s love for vintage has taken him to different corners of the world. “These items have been collected from more than 20 countries around the world such as Egypt, Georgia, Kuwait and Qatar.”

With this exhibition, the curator aims to present how technology and society have evolved. “Most of the items that I have presented here are from the 1970s. With these items I intend to show visitors a slice of the bygone era,” said Hadrami.

Hadrami’s love for antique has made him turn a part of his house into a museum. “I have turned a part of my house in Seeb to a museum. The museum is open for five days (Sunday to Thursday) a week from 8am to 8pm.” Hadrami who has more than 1,600 antiques, hopes that private sector companies come forward to help him set up a museum and preserve history as it is.
