A 25-year-old youth died late on Friday night after collapsing during a cricket match between teams of two localities in Zehra Nagar, Banjara Hills.

The deceased, Lloyd Anthony, hailed from Nandi Nagar and worked for an online food ordering and delivery service.

The match was being played in an open area on Road No. 10, Banjara Hills. Police said it was around midnight that the deceased was delivering the fifth ball of his over when he collapsed during the run-up.

“He bowled four deliveries in quick succession without rest till the fatal ball. His team-mates rushed him to a private hospital in the vicinity, but he was declared brought dead. The cause of death is cardiac arrest,” Banjara Hills inspector K. Srinivas said, adding that Mr. Anthony had not suffered any injury.

“We have not received any information of the ball hitting him anywhere. There will be no post mortem as it is a case of natural death,” he said.

A video clip of Mr. Anthony bowling and collapsing was widely circulated on WhatsApp.
