SEOUL, Jan. 27 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Saturday reported a recent visit of South Korean officials to the reclusive nation to inspect venues for the countries' joint cultural events and joint training sessions for their Olympic skiers.
The report came two days after the 12-member South Korean delegation returned home following a three-day trip to Mount Kumgang and a ski resort along the east coast where South and North Korean skiers are expected to hold joint training sessions before the start of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
"The advance team toured the Masikryong Ski Resort, Mt Kumgang area, etc. where a joint training of north-south skiers and a north-south joint cultural event are to be staged with the 23rd Winter Olympics just ahead," the North's official Korean Central News Agency reported.
A North Korean delegation arrived in South Korea on Thursday on a trip to inspect venues for various joint events here, including a performance by a North Korean taekwondo demonstration team.
The North agreed to take part in the PyeongChang Olympic Games, slated for Feb. 9-25, following repeated requests from Seoul to do so. The countries have so far held three rounds of dialogue to that end, which also marked the first inter-Korean dialogue in more than two years.
The countries have also agreed to form a single women's hockey team for the PyeongChang Olympics.
