    (CNN / AP /Meredith) -- Steve Wynn is resigning from his position as RNC finance chairman, according to two Republican officials.

Wynn is facing allegations of sexual misconduct following a story in The Wall Street Journal that published on Friday. He denies the allegations. POLITICO was first to report Wynn plans to step down on Saturday.

RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a statement Saturday that she accepted Wynn's resignation.

RNC committee members are being told about his resignation today.

The Wall Street Journal reported dozens of people accused Wynn of a pattern of sexual misconduct. Then the board of directors of Wynn Resorts formed a special committee to investigate. In a statement last Friday, the board said the committee was "comprised solely of independent directors", and they were "deeply committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all the company's employees and to operating with the highest ethical standards."

Wynn told CNN, "The idea that I ever assaulted any woman is preposterous. We find ourselves in a world where people can make allegations, regardless of the truth, and a person is left with the choice of weathering insulting publicity or engaging in multi-year lawsuits. It is deplorable for anyone to find themselves in this situation
