Not ‘save Constitution’ but it was ‘save parties’ rally: Fadnavis hits out at Opp

Castigating the leaders of various Opposition parties for taking out a silent “save Constitution” rally in Mumbai on the occasion of the Republic Day, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday said that more than trying to “save” the Constitution, the rally taken out by Opposition leaders was meant for “saving” their respective parties.

Addressing at public meeting organised by the Maharashtra BJP at Kamgar Maidan at Parel in south-central Mumbai, after taking out a “Tringa” rally to celebrate the Republic day, Fadnavis said: “The rally organised by the Opposition parties was not meant for saving the Constitution. It was more of a rally to save their respective parties, because no one bothers about them with Narendra Modi at the helm of affairs in the country. These Opposition parties are unable to digest the manner in which the BJP has expanded its party base across the country under the leadership of Modi”.

“No wonder, these Opposition leaders are trying to save their respective parties under the guise of saving the Constitution. Our Constitution is very strong and no one can play around with it. Whenever someone insults or undermines the Constitution, the BJP will hit the streets and take on those forces attempting to insult the Constitution,” the Chief Minister said.

Earlier, semior BJP leaders including State party president Raosaheb Patil-Danve, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Mumbai party chief Ashish Shelar and others visited the Ambedkar Memorial, Chaityabhoomi in Dadar and paid tributes.

Meanwhile, sources in the State Government said that the Mumbai police were planning to book the leaders of the Opposition parties, particularly the Congress and NCP,  for organising the ‘Save Constitution’ march without permission.
