I am a retired federal civil servant. I worked 31 years and was a loyal, dedicated employee. During my career I worked for seven presidents, starting with Nixon and ending with George W. Bush. Five were Republicans and two were Democrats. I served each of them equally in that I did my job and did not allow my personal political views to interfere with the performance of my work.
It was my experience throughout my federal career that most federal employees were apolitical when it came to their job performance. Understand that while everyone had specific political beliefs they, by-and-large, remained politically neutral.
I am deeply saddened when I hear Trump disparage federal employees. He made numerous such comments as candidate Trump and now as President Trump. He has no inkling how dedicated federal employees are. That applies to the heads of the various agencies, but particularly to the rank-and-file staff who do the yeoman's work day-in and day-out.
I guess this should be no surprise, since he has absolutely no governmental experience whatsoever. He has also defamed and vilified every segment in our society, including women; minorities; the physically and mentally handicapped; military families; the judiciary; the press; and various religions, just to mention a few.
Suffice it to say that he has, is and will continue to divide our republic. His favorability is at historic lows (low 30s) and that is not just within our borders but also globally. He has offended our allies and enemies alike, of course that excludes Russia.
There are thousands of federal jobs that need to be filled but Trump refuses to fill them. He has also decimated budgets in most agencies. Is there any wonder why agencies may not be performing?
It's because we have a person in charge who does not care if our democracy fails. There is a clear and present danger emanating from the White House, and that danger begins and ends with Trump. He represents nothing of what I believe and value. The United States of America has never NOT BEEN GREAT! But I believe you already know that to be the truth.
